👩🍳 How to Make Swedish “Versatile” Meatballs:
Start by melting 4 tablespoons of butter in a pan, then whisk in ¼ cup of flour. Slowly pour in 3 cups of beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid any lumps. Simmer the sauce until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon 🥄—this is where the magic happens! Stir in 1 cup of half and half 🥛 to create that velvety texture that makes this dish truly irresistible.
To get that authentic Swedish flavor, we’ll add a touch of nutmeg and allspice to the sauce—since we’re using pre-made Versatile Meatballs, we’ll skip adding the spices to the meat mixture and stir them right into the gravy instead.
Now it’s time to add those juicy meatballs!
Serving Tip
Serve your Swedish meatballs over a bed of egg noodles—my favorite for this recipe is pappardelle noodles. They’re tender, wide, and mild in flavor (not too eggy).
🌿Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top to add a burst of freshness to each bite!

4 tbsp butter
3 cups beef broth
1/2 – 1 tsp allspice – *note 2
1/4 – 1/2 tsp nutmeg – *note 2
2 cups half & half – *note 3
9 oz package pappardelle noodles – *note 4
1/4 cup AP flour

- Now it’s time to add those juicy meatballs! Whether you make them from scratch or use store-bought ones, cook according to directions or heat through. Then add to the sauce.
- Prepare the pappardelle noodles per package directions.
- Serve your Swedish meatballs over a bed of Pappardelle noodles * see note 4.
- Start by melting 4 tablespoons of butter in a pan, then whisk in ¼ cup of flour to create a roux.
Notes
- Note 1: If you don’t have any Honey & Habaneros Versatile Meatballs on hand you can use some pre-made, however, try to find some that have a neutral flavor profile.
- Note 2: I suggest starting with the lesser amount of seasonings and continue adding until you get the desired flavors.
- Note 3: You can substitute heavy cream for the half & half if you want a richer sauce. Want to lighten it up? Milk is good too.
- *Note 4: Swedish Meatballs are excellent on rice and mashed potatoes.
